Grade: 7-10 – Intermediate Band

General Goals: To perform daily warm-ups, drill keys and key signatures, sight read, read various rhythms written on the board, critique intonation, learn conducting patterns, and rehearse full band literature

Grade: 9-12 – Advanced Band

General Goals: To encourage within students a life-long love of instrumental music through the acquisition and subsequent development of technical and musical skills in a caring, encouraging environment

Additional information:
The expectations of this group vary from year to year based on the students’ level of ability of the students involved. Typically, group performance opportunities are the PNG Independence Day celebration, Christmas Concert, and Spring Concert. December and May recitals are opportunities for individual or small group performances.

General Goals: To encourage students to enjoy singing as an opportunity for personal expression, teach the skills required for good air support and proper vocal tone, as well as recognize how music relates to our interaction with others and with God

Additional Information:
Each class begins with lively warm-ups in order to focus the group’s attention and prepare their voices to sing together as one unit. Students are actively encouraged to listen to one another in order for their voices to blend in together. The selected repertoire is taught through a mixture of reading the music (visual) and listening to demonstrations (auditory).
Performance opportunities include Chapel, Lapilo Church, Christmas concert and spring concert.
