General Information:
NCA Achievement Testing.
Each year the students of NCA take a standardized achievement test in order to demonstrate their continuing academic development and for NCA to assess its academic program.  The goal of NCA is for our students to achieve in the average to above-average categories.  In April 2012 our students took the Terra Nova achievement test.  The students did exceptionally well in all grade levels and categories with most scores in the above average range.  Congratulations on work well done!

Student Advocate.
Chris and Peggy Bittner have been appointed by the LCMT as alternate student advocates in addition to Jody and Marcia Riethmiller. Student advocates are adults to whom students may go to with any concerns they would rather not take to a teacher or school administrator.

Speech Therapy.
Martha Hinton, a speech therapist with SIL, is available until December 2012 for speech therapy or evaluations at Ukarumpa. She is unable to travel to Lapilo (NCA) at this time, but is willing to arrange therapies and/or evaluations in conjunction with those traveling to Ukarumpa. She requests at least one week notice. Martha Hinton can be contacted at .

Teacher In-Service.
NCA Staff will be holding a teacher in-service on Monday, September 3rd. There will be no classes after lunch (high school students will miss periods 6 and 7).

NCA Staff Retreat.
There will be no school on Friday, September 7th during the NCA Staff Retreat.

PNG Independence Day.
NCA Student Council will be celebrating PNG Independence day on Saturday, September 15th. There will be no school on Monday, September 17th.

Last Day of Term 1 – Sept 19.
Term 1 ends on September 19. This is a full day of school, not a half-day.

If your child will be absent from school, please send an email to the elementary office () to let us know.  This way we will know that your child is at home with you and not possibly wandering around or hurt.  Thank you!
Road Safety.
There has been some concern about the safety of children as they play near the roads or as they travel back and forth from school.  Please remind your children to not run into the roads.  With the steep slope of some of our roads it can be very difficult for drivers to stop.

Library Books.
While we appreciate the care that is taken with our library books, occasionally books are damaged.  Mrs. Hendrickson has asked that you do NOT try to repair the book on your own.  The library has special tape and glue that can be used to fix the books.  If a book is damaged, please simply make a note and send it with the book back to the library.

Spiritual Goal. – Pleasing God – Living Like Jesus
We will continue with our second spiritual goal – Live like Jesus – until our assembly in October.  To please God we need to seek to live like Jesus.  Philippians 2:5 says, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” (NIV)  We will seek to make our attitudes like His!

Digicel Contact.
If for some reason you need to contact someone in the elementary office using a Digicel number, please call 7175-3255.

PSAT. The PSAT test will be held for all Grade 11 students (It is open to but optional for Grade 10 students) on Wednesday, October 17. There is a small charge for this test (around $15 USD per student). The test prepares students for the SAT exam, and juniors who are U.S. Citizens are also automatically enrolled in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. If you would like more information about the PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship Program, call the high school office at 531-4570. If your Grade 10 student would like to take the PSAT please notify Neil the high school office. There are a limited number of slots for Grade 10 students.

SAT. The SAT will be held at NCA on November 3. All juniors and seniors should consider registering for this test. The recommended deadline for on-line registration is September 25. The final deadline for on-line registration is October 4.  Registering for the test can most easily be done online at  If this is not feasible, or if you have any other questions, please call Neil at the high school office. The SAT will be offered again at NCA on May 4.

Spiritual Emphasis Weekend (SEW). NCA’s annual Spiritual Emphasis Weekend (SEW) for 2012 will be held for Grade 9-12 students on October 11-14 at the Interface campus. Jr. High (Grade 7 and 8) SEW will be October 12-13 here at Lapilo.  We are excited once again to have a team from Hume Lake Christian Camps coming to run our program this year. We are looking forward to seeing the Lord work in our kids’ hearts again. Your prayers for the weekend are appreciated!

EHPSSSA Tournament.
Due to a double booking by NSI, the EHPSSSA sports tournament previously schedule for 31 August has been rescheduled for Thursday, 6 September 2012. Therefore, normal classes will be held for grades 9-12 on Friday, Aug 30th and will be cancelled on Thursday, Sep 6th.

Transitions to University.
We have had some inquiries about materials that could be useful for families preparing to transition a junior or senior into their passport country culture.  One valuable resource is a book that has been provided at our recent transition seminars: The Global Nomad’s Guide to University Transition by Tina L. Quick and Ruth Van Reken.  While this book is not written from a Christian perspective, there is some very useful and practical information presented. Two copies of this book are being put in the high school library. In addition, copies will be made available to NCA Seniors later in the year during our February Transitions Seminar.
