General Information:
Tournament Dates: The EHSSSA Provincial Tournament is on Friday, March 13. We anticipate that Boys’ Basketball will be held at NCA, and that Girls’ Soccer will be held at NSI in Goroka. If in fact basketball is held at NCA, grade K-8 classes will be cancelled for the day.
The date for the NCA Invitational Tournament is Saturday, February 21.
Sack Lunch Day: On Friday, February 13 we will be having another all-school sack lunch day. It was so much fun last term that Student Council decided to organize another one. Bring your lunch and bring your fun!
Term 4 Start Date: We will be starting Term 4 on Wednesday, April 8.
Faculty In-service: Wednesday, February 18, is a half-day staff in-service. Students will be dismissed at lunch, and there will be no school in the afternoon. High school will hold periods 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 in the morning.
Looking ahead to next year: These are the term dates for the 2015-2016 school year:
Term 1 July 29 – Sept. 30
Term 2 Oct. 21 – Dec. 16
Term 3 Jan. 13 – Mar. 16
Term 4 Apr. 6 – June 1
Elementary:
Reading Festival is off and running! Our next assembly and the end of the Reading Festival will be at 7:45 in the GYM on Wednesday, February 11th. Grades 2, 3, and 5 will be giving Living Book Reports and we will hear a report of how much the students have read during these 2 weeks. Thursday, Feb. 5th is Book Character Dress-up Day! Students can come to school dressed as a book character, along with a copy of the book that goes with their character, if possible. The elementary students will be meeting in the gym at 7:50 to see all the costumes in Grades K – 5.
Book Sale: The elementary library will be having a book sale on Friday, February 6th, outside the elementary library. Come and browse the new and pre-loved books for sale. Prices start at 20 toea. Parents and staff are welcome to come from 1:35 – 2:45. Everyone is invited to come from 3:10 – 3:45.
Games Night: The Games Night previously scheduled for February 13th has been cancelled. However, the 8th grade class will be hosting a games night on February 21st at 7pm for grades 1-5. It will be held on the tennis courts with a possible relocation to the gym in case of rain.
High School:
SAT on May 2. In 2014, NCA will be hosting the SAT college entry exam in May as well as in November. You should register online for the SAT at sat.collegeboard.com. The registration deadline for the May exam is April 4. However, we would recommend you registering well in advance of the deadline. For more information, contact Robyn Green at the high school.
Transitions Note: Just something to think about as you make travel plans…especially for families with graduating seniors. Many have noted that it is really helpful for high school students to have a couple of days after graduation to recover physically and emotionally before leaving PNG. Booking your tickets for Thursday morning is not recommended from a transitions standpoint. Please consider giving your teen even a day or two to “recover” – it can make a huge difference.
