News & Notes: May 2015

General Information:
Reminder: NCA Graduation Attendance. In order to help us facilitate more positive community relations, anyone coming to the NCA graduation ceremony that does not live at Lapilo Center (or its guest facilities) will be required to present an NCA-produced invitation at the main gate upon arrival. (This personalized invitation is not the same thing as the announcements and picture cards produced by the NCA Senior Class.) This applies to everyone coming from off-center (Sobega, town, etc.). Families with children at NCA will automatically be receiving personalized invitations for each family member within the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Forms: School Enrollment/Health Forms for 2015-2016 school year were sent electronically with the April News and Notes. Please complete them and return them to the school office as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.

Sack Lunch Day: On Tuesday, May 12th we will be having another all-school sack lunch day. Bring your lunch and bring your fun!

Summer staffing: There will be no one in the HS Office from June 8 – July 15. However, Scott Sasaki (HS Principal) and Erica Dorsey (Office assistant) will be monitoring their emails over the summer. Erica will have access to PDFs of this year’s report cards and senior’s transcripts if you need them. She will also be sending transcripts to the ACSI repository so that you can request a hard copy if necessary. Renee Cox () will be at school over the summer and is willing to help you with anything you might need. The HS vice principal address will not be monitored during the summer since Dana will be returning to teaching 6th grade.

Elementary:
Open House: We hope you can come see your child’s classroom during our Open House on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:45 a.m.

Final Assembly: Our last assembly of the school year will be on June 2nd, at 8:15 a.m., after the Open House. We look forward to hearing from all the elementary classes at this assembly.

Last Day of School: Wednesday, June 3rd is the last day of this school year. Elementary students will be dismissed at noon. On Tuesday, June 2nd, elementary students will be dismissed at 1:55 p.m.

Spiritual Goal: Our spiritual goal for this month is “Encourage One Another Daily.”

Staff for Next Year: Kindergarten – Amber Adams; Grade 1 – Bonnie Morton; Grade 2/3 – Heather Saunders/Robin Watters; Grade 4 – Joe Chell; Grade 5 – Gemma Maxwell; Grade 6 – Dana Bowers. We would appreciate your prayers for Heather and Gemma as they continue to work on paperwork and support raising to get here by the start of school.

Jr. & Sr. High:

Sports News: Provincial tournament will be held at NSI in Goroka on May 22nd. Grades 9-12 will be dismissed from school that day for tournament. There will also be an Invitational Tournament at UIS (Ukarumpa International School) on Saturday, May 9th.

Furloughing Families: Furloughing families are advised to check with the high school office before departing to get recommendations for courses while on furlough. Remember that if you are planning on using home-school high school (Grade 9-12) courses while on furlough, you will need to work with an agency that will issue credit on a transcript. A-Beka, Hewitt High School, NorthStar, Keystone, and NDCDE are all agencies that have been used by families in the past. More information is available at the high school office.

New Policy: The NCA school committee has made a new policy that would allow 1 semester of health class to take the place of 1 semester of PE credit. So if you are going to be on home assignment, this may be something you want to consider. It is also possible to take a health course via correspondence. If you have any questions about this, contact Dana Bowers in the high school office.
