Information about the 2016-2017 school year

Shortened School Day

NCA has several positions that have not been filled for next school year. We are grateful for two new teachers that are planning to come, several familiar teachers that are returning from home assignments, and staff who have been willing to move into new positions to help us at the school. We are encouraged that we will be able to offer the core classes at the high school level, although there are elective courses that we will not be offering. For grade 7-12 students, this means most will be able to take their core courses with an NCA teacher; however, many will not have electives or a study hall. Grades 9 through 12 will have English, math, science, social studies, world languages, Bible, and limited work studies available. We hope to be able to offer some electives during the second semester. Students will be required to carry five credits for the school year. As we looked at the schedule and the number of teachers we have, we realized there would be some benefits to the school program if we only ran six periods during the day instead of seven. Despite fewer course offerings this year, students should still be able to earn the 22 needed credits for graduation over the course of four years at NCA. Grades 7 and 8 will have English, math, science, social studies, Bible, and a PE/elective rotation available.

The school admin team has looked at this from the elementary perspective as well. We don’t have anyone able to take on all of the elementary music, PE, or technology classes; however, we do have plans for art classes during second semester. We would prefer that high school and elementary finish at the same time (in part to help with coordinating transportation) and coupled with the shortage of teachers for these classes, it seemed to make sense to end elementary early as well. As much as we like to offer these classes for our students, it seems that the Lord is directing in a different way for this year.

Therefore, our planned schedule for next year is as follows:

Kindergarten will run a shortened day from 7:45 – 10:30

Grades 1-12 will run from 7:45 – 12:10 and 1:05 – 1:55

Grades 7-12 work detail will run from 2 – 2:15

Grades 9-12 sports will run from 3:15 – 4:35

As always, please contact us with any questions or concerns. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make plans for the school using the personnel that God provides.
