News & Notes: September 2016

General Information:

Permission to Use Photos

NCA uses social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram, as recruiting tools for new teachers. We will be regularly posting pictures of classroom/school activities that include your children. Because the point is to gain a wider audience for our page (beyond NCA alumni and parents) we would like to give you the opportunity to express any concerns about the use of pictures of your child. If you do not wish for us to ever use a photo of your child, please let us know and we will be careful to leave them out of any posts. If we do not hear from you, we will assume it is okay. We will ask at the beginning of each school year if it is still alright to include your child in social media posts.

We are hoping you will consider “liking” our page and perhaps sharing it with your friends. Be watching for more news of NCA Instagram and Twitter feeds. Every year we need teachers to come fill the gaps left by those going on home assignment, and by liking and sharing posts you will help to broaden the audience that NCA reaches.

PNG Independence Day

PNG Independence Day at Lapilo Centre will look a bit different this year. The Lapilo Centre Management Team is still making plans and at this time we don’t know details. NCA will not be planning the celebrations, and classes and Student Council will not be organizing booths or preparing food to sell. If you would like more information about how you can be involved, please email .

Travel Plans

Every year there are many families that travel once school is out.  Some families make plans to leave the day after graduation and others wait a few days before beginning their travel. There are many benefits in waiting a few days after school is out before starting your travels.  We would encourage you to consider this as you make arrangements.

Last Day of Term 1

Term 1 ends on Thursday, October 6th.  This is a full day of school, not a half-day.

Our next elementary assembly is scheduled for October 5 at 7:45 am.  You are invited to come to the Conference Dining Hall to hear what the students have to share with us.

Digicel Contact

If you need to contact someone in the elementary office using a Digicel number, please call 7175-3255 or 7999-0709 ext. 575.

Elementary Student Picture Day

On Wednesday, September 7, all elementary students will have their picture taken for the yearbook.

Sack Lunch Day and Kindergarten classes

On Friday, September 23, we will be having a sack lunch day where all students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and eat together at the school.  We would like our kindergarten students to be able to join in on this activity, so for this special day we are extending the hours of class.  Kindergarten will run from 7:45 – 12:10 on September 23 and then students can stay for lunch.  The students will need to be picked up or go home at 1:00.  This is not a required activity, so if you would rather pick up your child earlier, just let us know.

Jr. & Sr. High:

Correspondence Courses

Several families indicated that they were interested in their grade 9-12 student taking a correspondence health course to earn half of a credit toward graduation. Few students have signed up for this course, however there is still time. Please contact the HS Principal at if you are interested in having your student take health.  Another correspondence option is physics for grade 11 and 12 students. Again, there is still time if you are interested in this science course. Contact the HS Principal for more information.

The PSAT test will be held for all grade 11 students on Wednesday, November 2 during the school day. Juniors who are U.S. citizens are also automatically enrolled in the National Merit Scholarship Competition as well. If you would like more information about the PSAT and the National Merit Scholarship Program, call the high school office at 7999-0707.

NCA will give the SAT test on Saturday, November 5. The registration deadline is Friday, October 7. Students can register and get more information, including links to practice problems and test-taking tips, at

Spiritual Emphasis Weekend (SEW)

NCA’s annual Spiritual Emphasis Weekend (SEW) for 2016 will be held for grade 9-12 students on November 10-13 at the EBC Orobiga Centre. Grade 7 and 8 students will have SEW on November 15 and 16. We are excited once again to have the team from Hume Lake coming to run our program this year. We are looking forward to seeing the Lord work in our kids’ hearts again. Your prayers for the weekend are appreciated!
