News & Notes: May 2017

Volume: 12 Number: 9 May 2017

General Information
Parent Input: The High School Secretary () recently sent all parents an email invitation to fill out an online parent survey. This email may have gone to your junk mail. Please check your email and participate if able. We value your input as we seek to make NCA excellent.

Reminder: NCA Graduation Attendance. In order to help us facilitate more positive community relations, anyone coming to the NCA graduation ceremony that does not live at Lapilo Center (or its guest facilities) will be required to present an NCA-produced invitation at the main gate upon arrival. This personalized invitation from NCA is not the same thing as the announcements and picture cards produced by individuals in the senior class. This applies to everyone coming from off-center (Sobega, town, etc.). Families with children at NCA will automatically be receiving personalized invitations for each family member within the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Missions Project: Donations for the humanitarian project are due by Friday, May 5th. The following week we’ll let the whole school know how many chickens were purchased through World Help. If you have any questions, direct them to the HS Vice Principal ().

Forms: School Enrollment/Health Forms for the 2017-2018 school year were sent electronically with the April News and Notes. Please complete them and return them to the school office as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.

Long break staffing: The school administration will be all over the world during the long break. The best way to get in touch with the HS principal is at . The HS Vice Principal () will be available to be in the office through the month of June. The EL Principal () will be at school over the long break, though please contact her via email about what you need and when you need it.

Report Cards: End-of-the-year report cards will be available on May 30th. For those living at Lapilo or Sobega, your report cards will be sent via Lapilo Center mail. For everyone else, hard copies of the report cards will be left at the NTM-PNG Lapilo Headquarters Office, where you can pick them up at your convenience. If you would prefer to have the report cards mailed to you by PNG mail, please let us know. If you are planning to travel soon after graduation and will not be around to collect your child’s report cards, please let the school office () know so that we can send you the documents by email.

Art Show: On May 20th, which is also Awards Night, our NCA students will have some of their art work on display. There will be work from both elementary and high school students. Come as early as 6:30 pm and enjoy the displays in the gym.

Open House: We hope you can come see your child’s classroom during our Open House on Wednesday, May 24th, at 7:45 am.

Final Assembly: Our last assembly of the school year will be on Wednesday, May 24th, at 8:15 am, after the Open House. We look forward to hearing from all the elementary classes at this assembly as well as recognizing our grade 6 students.

Last Day of School: Thursday, May 25th, is the last day of this school year. Elementary students will be dismissed at noon. Elementary students are also dismissed at noon on Wednesday, May 24th, due to the long work detail schedule.

Spiritual Goal: Our spiritual goal for this term is “Help Others”. We have been very excited to see our students working on this goal in many ways, including supporting our Missions Week project in the month of April.

Jr. & Sr. High
Course Selection Forms: Course Selection forms were distributed to students last week. Current grade 8-11 students who are returning to NCA next year should turn in these forms by Wednesday, May 3rd. Let the HS Principal () know if you have questions about what classes to take; we’d much rather solve problems now than when the school year is upon us!

Home Assignment Families: Students going on home assignment received a Course Recommendation form last week. The form outlines what courses and sequences are needed to eventually grade from NCA. Remember that if you are planning on using homeschool high school (Grade 9-12) courses while on home assignment, you will need to work with an agency that will issue credit on a transcript. Let the HS Principal () know if you have questions about what classes to take; we’d much rather solve problems now than have a student return without correct credits!
