Transitions
Since transitions are an especially impactful part of our students’ lives, we devote time each year to teaching our students how to transition well. This year Libby Stephens will be visiting NCA from February 19 through the 24.
Every elementary student will hear from Libby in a session designed just for their grade level. You will receive more information about when that session will occur from your child’s teacher.
Grade 7-10 students will have five sessions with Libby throughout the week, while grades 11 and 12 will have sessions during the week and all day Saturday. You’ll receive more information from Craig Hammonds.
Your students aren’t the only ones who will benefit though. WE HAVE SESSIONS FOR YOU TOO!
Parents of Third Culture Kids Seminar
Parents are encouraged to attend this seminar to learn more about what it means to raise a third-culture kid. Parents will define third-culture kids and identify some of the benefits and challenges that that their children may experience. They will learn strategies for turning cultural bumps into teachable moments. This seminar is intended to go beyond identifying the joys and challenges of raising a TCK and instead provide parents with clear steps and strategies to maximize the TCK experience for their children. This is Tuesday, February 20 from 6:30 to 9 pm in the HQ Conference Room.
Transitions for Parents Seminar
Parents are encouraged to attend this seminar to learn more about what it means to parent a third-culture kid through transitions. Parents will define third-culture kids and identify the transitions that their children face. They will be provided with ways to help their children normalize transitions and deal with grief. They will learn strategies for leaving and entering countries well. This material will relate to the material that students are hearing in class during this week. This seminar is intended to go beyond identifying the joys and challenges of raising a TCK and instead provide parents with clear steps and strategies to maximize the TCK (and thus transitional) experience for their child. This is Wednesday, February 21 from 6:30 to 9 pm in the HQ Conference Room.
Transitions for Adults Seminar
Adults are encouraged to attend this seminar to learn more about navigating through transitions. Whether you are leaving the field soon or you’ve been here for decades, living in our missionary community means we are all living in times of transition. There is a very clear transition process, and attendees will learn to identify key characteristics of each stage and how to proceed from one stage to the next. Attendees will hear about strategies to deal with the inevitable anxious, awkward, and joyous circumstances that surround transitions. This is Thursday, February 22 from 6:30 to 9 pm in the HQ Conference Room.
Libby will also be available for individual or small group consultation. Please contact Craig Hammonds if you’re interested in setting up a time.

7:35 Bell
The first elementary bell rings at 7:35 now. This is the signal for all elementary students that they can come to their porches and prepare for the day. Please supervise your children (on the playground or at home) until this time.
